What is HYROX?

HYROX is Fitness Racing, combining both running & functional workout stations. Participants run 1km, followed by 1 functional workout station, repeated eight times.

Running, ski erg, sled push, sled pull, burpee broad jumps, rowing, farmers carry, sandbag lunges and wall balls. It’s a test of endurance and strength.

The race format stays the same but training is varied. Our HYROX programming focuses on building a solid foundation of fitness, strength and techniques that will support your goals. Whether you’re an athlete or complete beginner HYROX is for everyone.

Frequently Asked Questions

What Does HYROX Stand For?

In all honesty, HYROX doesn't actually stand for anything. This form of exercise involves participants completing a set of standardised exercises, such as running, rowing, and various functional movements, across different stations. The goal is to test both strength and stamina in a competitive, yet inclusive environment, suitable for all fitness levels. While "HYROX" itself doesn’t stand for specific words, it represents this structured combination of endurance and strength challenges.

What To Eat Before HYROX Training

It's important to eat a balanced meal that provides energy and sustains performance. Focus on consuming a mix of carbohydrates for energy, such as oats, rice, or whole grains, and lean proteins like chicken, fish, or eggs to support muscle function. You can also include some healthy fats, such as avocado or nuts, to help maintain energy levels.

If you're competing in a HYROX competition, it’s best to eat 2-3 hours before the event to allow proper digestion, and stay hydrated by drinking water leading up to the event. A small, easily digestible snack, like a banana or energy bar, can be eaten 30-60 minutes before starting.

What is HYROX Training?

HYROX is designed to test overall fitness, focusing on both cardiovascular endurance and strength, making it suitable for a wide range of fitness levels. It's often described as a mix between traditional endurance races and functional fitness competitions like CrossFit. It consists of a standardised format where participants complete a series of functional workout stations, such as sled pushes, burpees, and rowing, sprinkled with some 1 km runs.

At our gym in Telford, our HYROX classes provide a challenging blend of endurance and functional strength exercises, designed to help you build stamina, power, and overall fitness.
